The Reason Behind Acne Scars

By Geraldine Spencer

Acne is an a matter of serious concern, especially for teenage girls, as it sprouts up all of a sudden and its scars remain long after the acne is gone. Notwithstanding your hatred for it, acne can not be escaped by an average teenager and a lot of care is required in order to remove these scars and stopping them from sprouting up again.

When the sebum discharged by skin glands reacts with bacteria, it results in an infection, which is referred to as acne. During the healing period of this condition, a fibrous protein called collagen is formed. When the collagen is in surplus, there is a swelling and when its levels are below normal then it results in tiny craters on the skin. Either of these factors can lead to acne scars. Teenagers usually suffer a lot more than others because the amount of hormones increase at a high rate at the time of puberty leading to increased secretion of sebum.

Some of the common causes of an acne infection are usage of beauty products that do not suit the skin type, intake of contraceptive pills and drugs, and other genetic factors. Various other factors such as mental tension, unhealthy food habits, and even pollution can cause acne. However, contrary to common perception, there is no scientific link between spicy or fast food and acne.

In spite of availability of a number of herbal cosmetics and creams for curing acne available in the shops, it is better to consult a doctor if the infection increases or appears again and again. It is also advisable not to poke the acne with sharp- edged objects or to put any kind of pressure on it as it makes the infection get worse.

A number of affected people now go for several cosmetic treatments to make the scars disappear and get a glowing skin. In addition to surgical procedures and laser treatment that are two of the most successful treatments in making acne scars disappear, there are numerous other new therapies too. You must see a good dermatologist who would be able to determine your type of skin and recommend an appropriate treatment.
